Jupiter, FL, Oct. 28: On Saturday, November 8, Palm Beach International Raceway will open its gates for the first event on the newest of all-concrete drag race surfaces in the country!
After months of rebuilding, this well-known Jupiter, FL, race facility will again offer racers the opportunity to test and tune their vehicles.
The PBIR staff and management are looking forward to providing the racers with a great track and a positive experience! Gates open 9AM with racing 10AM to 5PM. Race entry $50, crew/spectator entry $15 each and children 12 years and under no charge when accompanied by a parent.
On Sunday, November 9, “Big Daddy” Don Garlits and his Swamp Fuel Rat VI top fuel dragster, the first drag car to exceed 200 mph back in 1964, will feature in the previously hailed Dick Moroso Classic Car Show and Nostalgia Drag Race.
Also included in the fun will be the Southern Slingshots plus Rocky Pirone and Dave Sano in their nostalgia Funny Cars. The show portion will present many historic factory racecars from the 1960’s, and a herd of street and customs rods will be judged by the South East Rods & Customs.
To ensure its flatness, this new all-concrete track has recently been milled and polished. Prior to milling, it was “Profilographed,” a laser measuring EKG-like procedure that identifies any high or low areas in the track surface. The timing apparatus is the latest state-of-the-art Compulink system, the official timing mechanism of the NHRA.
The new Trans-Lux scoreboards feature all-green LED bulbs and 48-inch tall digits which read to 1/1000th of a second. The weigh scale is a custom-designed unit with a thirty-foot deck, long enough to handle 300″ Top Fuel dragsters. An Advance Captor scrubber will be on hand to accelerate oil-down clean-ups as well as a jet dryer to assist during rain.
