In the annual 2013 Pageant of Power held on June 14-16 over the 1.2-mile circuit of the Cholmondeley Estate in Cheshire, UK, an Ariel Atom driven by Niki Faulkner made news.

Running on skinny tires and without sequential transmission, paddle shifter, and all the aerodynamic paraphernalia of the modern sports racing car, the Atom achieved an astounding sixth overall

The field comprised 139 cars, which were divided into 13 classes. These introduced historic F1 machinery and some exotic, modern super cars, including the marquees of Lamborghini, Bugatti, and McLaren. A V8-powered Radical and Caterham SP/300R finished first and second.

Interestingly, the Atom’s best time of 61.18 seconds would have claimed outright victory in the 2012 event.
