What makes speed so appealing? IHRA’s 2015 inaugural promises something special

By Alfie Bilk, January 26, 2015

Southwestern_Logo_4C_275pxAs the IHRA launches its Nitro Jam series, its first national event of the 2015 season and scheduled for this weekend in the agreeable climes of Tucson, it continues to break new ground.

Good Vibrations Southwestern Nationals presented by Budweiser:

Re-establishing itself by promoting the elements that matter most—exciting racing, affordable ticket prices and their praiseworthy support for the racers—have been their defining factors. Sportsman racer Chuck Lawrence of Jon Kaase Racing Engines says, “I raced with the IHRA twice last year and I can’t remember a more enjoyable time—they took great pains to ensure the racers were satisfied at every step.”

McAttackAs expected, IHRA’s prominent four Pro classes will feature in Tucson. These include the Amsoil Nitro Funny Cars, a series presented by Aeromotive Inc, the official fuel systems supplier of the International Hot Rod Association.

In addition the Tucson event serves as the debut of the US Bounty Hunters Mountain Motor Pro Stock class. Brought to prominence by the Discovery Channel’s program Destination America, the Bounty Hunters have a reputation for confronting life on the perilous edge. “Their occupation entails snagging bad guys, criminals on the run,” says IHRA’s Steve Cole “and in Pro Stock racing they saw the perfect connection to their fan base. But they also loved the sheer power and excitement of Mountain Motor racing”.

Of course the nitro Harley’s will be back in action as will the competition Jet Car teams. Most importantly, Good Vibrations, the Tucson race sponsors, has attracted a full line up of Sportsman racing. Paying tribute to the people around whom the sport is built, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes will be among their numbers.

Nostalgic Funny Cars one-off appearance

As a bonus to the already packed calendar, the Los Angeles race parts suppliers Good Vibrations Motorsports, who are also aligned with Cifca, an organization devoted to the preservation of nostalgic Funny Cars in Southern California will present a field of these highly evocative race cars in a one-off exhibition match race.

IHRA’s inaugural event of the season and Tucson’s biggest race weekend of the year is being hosted this weekend Friday and Saturday, February 6-7, 2015 at Southwestern International Dragway, 12000 South Houghton Road, Tucson, Arizona.
